Blog: This Week in the Woods

The Woodland Floor is Coming To Life
04.11.2011

The warm days of this weekend have caused the woodland floor to come alive! The earliest of the dainty spring blossoms are beginning their dance. Bloodroot sparkles along the perimeter of the Gathering Grove picnic grounds in its brief salutation to the warmth of the sun as the Trout Lilies, (also known as Dog-Tooth Violets) and Dutchman's Breetches raise their dainty heads.

The un-seasonally warm weather will shorten their dance as the Trillium, Bluebells and May Apples gather their momentum.

One happy hiker commmented that even mid-afternoon the Songs at Dawn Trail offered up a "symphony of bird song". Tomorrow will be my time to listen!
